Listening & Spoken Language Specialist Support

Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT)

Launching in 2026

If you’re navigating hearing loss and wondering how best to support your child’s listening and spoken language, this service is designed to offer clarity before commitment.

Support is offered through a two-stage pathway, allowing families to decide what feels right for them — without pressure.

A CONNECT + Auditory-Verbal Therapy approach

Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) is a specialist, evidence-based approach that supports babies, children, and young people with hearing loss to develop listening and spoken language through audition.

At Connect Communication Therapy, AVT is delivered through the CONNECT Framework, which means:

  • listening is prioritised without pressure
  • regulation and emotional safety are central
  • learning happens through everyday routines, not drills
  • parents and carers are coached as key partners
  • progress is built between sessions, not just in them

This combination allows Auditory-Verbal principles to be applied in a way that feels humane, realistic, and sustainable — particularly for children who experience listening fatigue, anxiety, or have additional needs alongside hearing loss.

Experience and professional background

I am an experienced Auditory Verbal Therapist, qualified through AG Bell in 2011, and have been delivering high-quality listening and spoken language support to families for over a decade.

My work has included:

  • supporting babies, children with hearing loss across a wide range of profiles
  • working with families at different stages of the hearing journey, from early diagnosis and post-implant and beyond
  • embedding Auditory-Verbal principles into everyday family life, education settings, and real-world routines

Alongside my clinical work with families, I have also:

  • trained and mentored professionals working towards Auditory-Verbal Therapy certification
  • supported practitioners to develop confident, listening-first, family-centred practice

This blend of specialist expertise, clinical experience, and professional mentoring informs the way I work today — combining strong Auditory-Verbal foundations with a CONNECT-led, relational approach.

Step 1: Start with clarity

Listening & Spoken Language Insight Session

£150 | 90 minutes | Stand-alone appointment

All families begin with a single, one-off insight session.

This session helps you to:

  • understand your child’s hearing and listening access
  • make sense of audiograms and reports in everyday terms
  • explore what is supporting — or limiting — progress
  • experience a listening-first, Auditory-Verbal informed approach

Many families find that this session alone provides reassurance and direction.

There is no obligation to continue beyond this appointment.

Step 2: Optional 6-month specialist support

(Launching later in 2026)

For families who would benefit from ongoing guidance, a 6-month Listening & Spoken Language Specialist Package will be available later in 2026.

This time-limited package is designed to:

  • strengthen listening foundations
  • support spoken language through everyday routines
  • build parent confidence over time
  • reduce pressure and overwhelm

The approach is supportive, not intensive, with a strong focus on real-life carryover rather than therapy tasks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Auditory-Verbal Therapy?

This support is Auditory-Verbal Therapy and grounded in listening-first principles, delivered through the CONNECT Framework.

The emphasis is on:

  • listening access
  • spoken language through everyday routines
  • parent coaching and confidence
  • connection, regulation, and sustainability

Why isn’t this weekly therapy?

Listening and spoken language develop between sessions, not just within them.

Spacing sessions:

  • reduces pressure on children
  • allows learning to embed naturally
  • supports families to feel confident applying strategies in daily life

Will you liaise with audiology or education teams?

Yes — with your consent.

This may include:

  • helping you understand reports
  • preparing questions ahead of appointments
  • clarifying recommendations and next steps

Formal written reports can also be included.

Is this suitable if my child has additional needs?

Yes.

Many children benefit from:

  • reduced language pressure
  • strong listening foundations
  • predictable routines
  • processing time and auditory closure

Suitability is always discussed before offering a place.

What if we’re not sure about ongoing support?

That’s exactly why the initial insight session is stand-alone.

Many families find that one session gives them enough clarity to move forward confidently.

Why this structure?

  • so families can decide with confidence
  • so support feels sustainable, not overwhelming
  • so listening and spoken language can develop naturally over time
